Black Overfalls Weir Pool

General Description

This is a members only section – keepnets are NOT permitted.

The Black Overfalls Weir Pool is fed by water from D and E Section and the New Cut. It holds chub, and shoals of good sized bream, with bream over 6 lb caught regularly. Barbel over 11 lb have been caught here, few have been taken in recent years, but the society hopes that the restocking of November 2017 will see them return to the Weir Pool and the Mill Stream.

Some sizable eels have also been caught by anglers using meat baits for chub and barbel.
Swims are restricted at the moment: there is limited access to the ‘beach’ area opposite the weir, which we hope to improve. But it is also possible to fish the Weir Pool from the far bank of New Cut, which is accessed by crossing the foot bridge over New Cut a few hundred yards on from the Weir Pool.

Parking & Access

Park in The Main Car Park.

Please note, the barrier on the entrance to the main car park is locked by combination padlock to prevent unauthorised entry. The combination required to open this barrier is shown on page 14 of the members handbook.

The car park entrance has a height restriction of 6′ 4″ ( 1.9 metres). Walk to The Weir PoolOn leaving the car park, turn left towards the Old Flour Mill. The road is narrow, and traffic flows both ways so expect vehicles to approach from in front and behind. Follow the road past the old mill and over the Mill Stream bridge; enter the field by the gate on your left just past the river bridge. You are now walking The Ouse Valley Way, The Mill Stream, which runs from the Black Overfalls Weir Pool to the bridge, is on your left. Follow the Mill Stream upstream to the Weir Pool.
